Our Story

MiaMum Inc. was founded by Maria Hughes, a former pediatric registered nurse. In 2004, Maria and her husband welcomed their first baby boy into their family. While on maternity leave, Maria spent her spare moments designing baby products for her son. Family and friends quickly took notice and began requesting items for their children.

Maria’s hobby turned into a business a few years later, after the birth of her second baby boy. Along with her second boy came a need for a feminine outlet, so PrimaMia™ was born. And thank goodness for a feminine outlet because The Hughes Family was blessed with another baby boy in September 2010! Maria is expecting her fourth child (a girl!!) in July this year. She is thrilled (perhaps an understatement?).

Currently, MiaMum’s™ three trademarked brands (MiaMum™, SassyStrap™, and PrimaMia™) are sold in boutiques across Canada and on this website. All products are proudly made in Canada.  

In 2011, MiaMum™ Inc. partnered with Canadian Humanitarian and now donates 7.5% of all sales to this charity. Canadian Humanitarian is a non-religious, non-political charitable organization dedicated to assisting disadvantaged children and their families in Ethiopia break free from the cycle of poverty.
